Internal Family Systems

Informed Therapy
WHAT IS INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (IFS)?
Much like a family where each individual has their own role and personality, our minds are structured the same way, with each part of us playing a role and having it’s own unique thoughts. Have you ever experienced an inner conflict where a part of you wanted to make one choice, and another part wanted to do something completely different? Those are parts of you expressing their thoughts and trying to work together to help you navigate life. This is all a good thing!
But there are times when Parts can get in our way, and this usually happens when they become extreme. Maybe there is a Part of you that keeps you up worrying late at night, or another part that shuts you down when you are in conflict. These parts are not bad; they are trying to protect you from uncomfortable feelings. Through IFS therapy, Aimee can help you get to know these parts, explore the exiles (the parts they are protecting) and help you unburden them so the other parts of you don’t have to work so hard.
Is IFS right for me?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) can be used to treat a variety of symptoms, including (but not limited to):
trauma
anxiety
depression
relationship conflicts
social anxiety
parenting issues
stress
How does IFS work?
Internal Family Sytems (IFS) takes a different approach to traditional talk therapy. It integrates both the body and mind, and explores your inner world. You will learn how to access your parts, starting with a protector. As you get to know this part and understand its motivations and behaviors, you will learn more about yourself and the other parts of you it is protecting. Through this process, more of your true Self can emerge and begin to take the driver seat in your life.
Why is IFS helpful?
When we connect with our inner world, it gives us the opportunity to become more accepting and compassionate with ourselves. Through this acceptance and compassion, we are able to help update the parts of us that are stuck, burdened or frozen in the past. Through this process, the parts of us that are causing us pain, discomfort or struggles, do not have to work so hard to protect us and we are freed from their burdens. This allows us to have access to our true Selves, which is compassionate, confident, courageous and calm.
