How long does therapy last and how frequently do you attend therapy sessions?

The length of therapy varies on individual needs and goals. Some clients benefit from 3-6 months of therapy if there is a specific goal or issue they are working towards. Other clients engage in longer term therapy for one year or longer depending on the complexities of their presenting problem. Most clients come in for weekly therapy for at least the first month, and depending on their needs can move to biweekly to sessions

I’ve never been to therapy before, what can I expect?

In your first therapy session, Aimee will review policies and procedures, and discuss the therapuetic process in more detail. Rapport building, exploring current issues and goals for therapy will be discussed as well. ALL therapy sessions are confidential (although there are confidentiality limits which Aimee will discuss). Aimee uses a variety of therapuetic techniques, including IFS, EMDR, Self Compassion and traditional talk therapy. Aimee always discusses these approaches and encourages clients to experiment with approaches to see which ones feel the most comfortable and effective. At times, you may receive homework, but this is always optional and something used to help you in between sessions. Aimee’s priority is to collaborate with you on your treatment needs and will explain her reasoning for using various modalities. Progress takes time in therapy and is a gradual process.
